- Bunya Pines ( " Araucaria bidwillii " ) were once in the reserve, until they were dilapidated.
- Citing striking similarities with the extant " Araucaria bidwillii ", Calder reclassified the specimens as " Araucaria mirabilis ".
- Bidwill took specimen examples of the Bunya Bunya pine ( Araucaria bidwillii ) to London in 1843, a seedling of which was bought by Kew Gardens.
- The cones of the bunya bunya, " Araucaria bidwillii ", for example, weigh, about the size and weight of a large pineapple.
- Between the house and its boundary with Higgins Street stands a large Bunya Pine ( Araucaria bidwillii ) in an area fenced off from the rest of the property.
- It is associated with a picturesque hillside graveyard; large secluded grotto; olive grove and other plantings including Bunya pines ( Araucaria bidwillii ); and disused dairy buildings.

- The place survives remarkably intact, and is important in demonstrating the principal characteristics of a grand, two-storeyed brick residence with wide, ornate verandahs, observation tower, sandstone cellar, early water reticulation system, and set in substantial grounds [ which include an olive grove, other significant plantings including Bunya pines ( Araucaria bidwillii ), and disused dairy buildings ], and with fine vistas over rural surroundings.
- Significant tree plantings include pine, fig and native plum, such as : Queensland kauri ( Agathis robusta ); bull kauri ( Agathis microstachya ); bunya pine ( Araucaria bidwillii ); hoop pine ( Araucaria cunninghamii ); Bribie Island pine ( Callitrus columellaris ); Moreton Bay fig ( Ficus macrophylla ); Queensland weeping fig ( Ficus microcarpa ); cluster fig ( Ficus racemosa ); rusty fig ( Ficus rubiginosa ); and Queensland rarities like Burdekin plum, ( Pleogynium timorense ) and Davidson plum ( Davidsonia pruriens ).
